Zipline Through The Redwoods With Sonoma Canopy Tours

Now you can zipline through the Redwoods with Sonoma Canopy Tours. People come from all over the world to stroll through the majestic Redwoods of Northern California but why walk through the Redwoods when you can fly through them thanks to Sonoma Canopy Tours.
Located in the heart of Sonoma County, about 90 minutes north of San Francisco and just outside of the quaint town of Occidental, awaits this unique opportunity with one of the foremost zipline experiences bar none and they are ready and waiting to give you bucket list experience like no other as you zipline through the redwoods with Sonoma Canopy Tours.
This high adventure family-friendly tour through the treetops and beyond is not exhilarating but educational. The unique course is compromised of 7 ziplines, 2 sky bridges, a magnificent spiral staircase, and a rappel back to the forest floor. One of the ziplines is over 800 feet long giving you panoramic forest views and deep ravines that cannot be rivaled anywhere.
A zipline lets the magic of gravity do all the work. Fitted with a specially-designed harness, you’ll reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour on our fastest zips. On other elements of the course, you are able savor breathtaking views of the majestic Redwood forest at a leisurely pace.
Your tour starts at the base of the mountain where you are greeted by the special team of the Guides for Sonoma Canopy Tours all of whom have been carefully selected and well trained to handle any of your safety concerns. After a short ride up the hill, your guides will take you through a series of safety training, fit you with your gear, and then you’ll take your turn on the practice zip line to ensure that you feel comfortable for the adventure of a lifetime that awaits you.
Tip: The guides are there to help you work through any special challenges that you might be faced with so if, for example, you happen to be zipping the day before your knee replacement surgery, they will work with you to ensure you have a safe yet fun experience so don’t let that deter you.
Our world-class course and Guides are annually certified by an outside professional canopy tour builder and trainer, as well as the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). Rest assured we offer the safest experience possible in the high canopy of the Coastal Redwood forest.
Once you’ve passed safety training, it’s time to load up in the truck and go! You’ll be driven right up to the platform of the first zipline and from there, you’ll quite literally fly from tree to tree to tree. The ziplines become progressively longer with each of the 8 stages.
Tip: Unlike other zip lines you may have experienced in other parts of the country or even throughout the world, there are no stairs to climb with Sonoma Canopy Tours. In fact, I thought every zipline was like this one until I went to the Dominican Republic and discovered that to reach the platforms there, it required a 6-10 story climb up to each line.
Sonoma Canopy Tours is completely unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. There are two unique courses, each a two-and-a-half hour Guided eco-tour that include multiple zip lines, sky bridges, a majestic spiral staircase, and my favorite part, the rappel to the forest floor, but with each, you are immersed in the unparalleled beauty of the world-famous California Coastal Redwoods.
Tip: I highly recommend renting one of the helmet cams they offer to capture your entire experience. Also, don’t forget your camera, as you will want to remember these views for many years to come.
Sonoma Canopy Tours is how education should be done-by experiencing and living it firsthand. Along the way, you’ll be up close and personal with some of the tallest, and oldest, living things you’ll ever meet (including Walter, the oldest tree on the grounds) and at the end of the day, you’ll end your tour with a deeper appreciation for the forest and for our planet.
Tip: This is the perfect experience for the entire family and on the last tour I did we had a family with 4 generations from Germany all making a lifetime of memories together.
There are three distinct flights that you can take:
The CLASSIC COURSE (DAY FLIGHT)
A zipline lets the magic of gravity do all the work. Fitted with a specially-designed harness, you’ll reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour on our fastest zips. On other elements of the course, you can savor breathtaking views of the majestic Redwood forest at a leisurely pace. Enjoy our same great Classic Course after the sunsets! Along with the thrill of zipping quietly through the nighttime forest, you’ll view the night sky, moon, and stars from our treetop platforms.
CHALLENGER COURSE
This includes more zips and other great elements are added but with all the fun of the classic and is undergoing enhancements but will reopen in time for Memorial Weekend.
NIGHT FLIGHTS (CLASSIC COURSE AT NIGHT)
The Night Flight allows you to enjoy the same Classic Course after the sunsets! Along with the thrill of zipping quietly through the nighttime forest, you’ll view the night sky, moon, and stars from our treetop platforms guided only by the light of the stars.
ZIP THE DAY & NIGHT AWAY
Sonoma Canopy Tours offers two great experiences and allows you to save some money at the same time. Here’s the perfect way for you to book their Classic Course earlier in the day, grab a meal in nearby Occidental and then come back and see the Redwoods and the night sky from our platforms! It just doesn’t get any better than that.
Tip: Zipline tours go rain or shine! Because the weather tends to be on the coolers side when you’re surrounded by the Redwoods, Wear comfortable clothes, and closed-toed shoes that are secure to your foot (such as tennis shoes) or hiking boots are great year-round. Long hair should be pulled back in a ponytail and make sure you secure your glasses with a strap they ask that you not wear skirts or dresses. You’ll also want to keep your pockets free of any sharp objects, like keys or pens. They provide secure storage for all of your valuables in the Gift Shop so no need to worry about where to put your purse.
Rider Requirements for all courses:
- Each rider must be 10 years of age or older
- Riders age 10–15 MUST have an adult accompanying them through the entire course
- Minimum weight 70 pounds
- Maximum weight is 250 pounds
