Last Minute Halloween Decor for Your Front Door!

Halloween is almost here and we have the perfect last-minute halloween decor for your front door. I love a great project that involves the kids and that I will keep around for years to come. Depending on your own personal style and creativity you can transform this project to fit your own decor ideas! We kept it weeknight simple! In my house we love Halloween, so we were all properly inspired to take on this project.

Getting messy making this sign was the best part of this for the kids! They are begging to make more!

First prep your supplies, kids hate to wait! I took a piece of scrap lumber I had in the garage. It was an old shelf originally! So, I recycled it!

  • Piece of wood (you can buy cull wood at your local lumber supplier for under $1.oo for this size, just ask an employee where their cart is!)
  • Black gesso or craft paint
  • White vinyl adhesive or white paint and a fine brush
  • orange craft paint
  • white craft paint
  • green craft paint
  • Clear topcoat
  • dollar store table cloth or old newspapers
  • paper towels or baby wipes
  • paper plate

I painted my board while my kids were busy playing. Paint both sides and the edges. When it is completely dry take the white paint and spread it on the paper plate, enough for their foot to be covered. Assist younger kids with the placement of the foot on the board. Once done wipe their feet with the baby wipes or paper towels to protect your surfaces!!! Let dry.

The finished look of our family's Halloween sign! It was so much fun to make!

Flip and use the kid’s thumbprints to make pumpkins! The paper plate again will come in handy, just a quarter-sized amount of paint will do the trick. Again, let dry. When completely dry be creative. Add eyes and mouth to the ghosts or stems and jack-o-lantern faces to the pumpkins. Once the details are dry you can either paint the words on your wood or use your Cricut and vinyl. Do not apply your clear coat unless all the paint is thoroughly dry.

For those who miss the candy, they get the joy of seeing my cool sign, made with love!

We made two of these and my kids loved it, I hope yours will too! Want to really pop out, apply some bling, or glow-in-the-dark paint! Don’t be afraid to be creative! What is your go-to last-minute Halloween decor idea?
