First-Day-Of-School Teacher To Parent Gift

As someone who is both a teacher and a parent, the first day of school is one of the best days there is, but also the hardest. Brand new smiling faces, watching your child grow from year to year and become the adult they were meant to be but at the same time there are tears-tears of joy and tears of sadness. And if you’re an educator too, I too know what that last minute crunch is like as the clock ticks down and you’re in search of that perfect First Day Of School Gift to show your parents that they are leaving their children in very capable hands. Well luckily, I have just the thing for you and it’s guaranteed to let the parents know just how much you care. Not only is it quick and easy to make, you can do it with things you already have at home and the best part, it shows them that the year is already off to a great start.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 “Back-To-School Poem” -I print mine on decorated computer paper
  • 1 ziplock bag
  • 1 Teabag
  • 1 tissue
  • 1 Cotton Ball

Yes it’s just that easy!  Each year as I greet my new group of students at the door, as the parents are leaving I hand them the bag. Inside the bag they find a tea bag, a cotton ball, a tissue and this note and I ask them not to open it until they get home. During the day I also send each parent a picture of their student having a great time as they discover the joy that is learning.

First Day Of School Poem & Letter
I gave you a wink and a smile
As you entered my room today,
For I know how hard it is to leave,
And Know your child must stay.
You’ve been with them for many years now
And have been a loving guide
But now, alas, the time has come
To leave them at my side.
Just know that as you walk away
And tears down your cheeks may flow
I’ll love them as I would my own
And help him learn and grow.
For as a parent, I too know
How quickly the years do pass
And it wasn’t all that long ago
I took my own children to class.
So please put your mind at ease
And cry those tears no more
For I will love them and take him in
When you leave them at my door”

Dearest Parents, Here is a little gift for you as you leave your precious one with me on this first day of school.  Hold the cotton ball in your hand-the softness will help you to remember the gentle spirit of your child.   After you’ve gone home and dried your tears with this Kleenex, use the tea bag to make yourself a soothing cup of tea.  Put your feet up and relax. Remember that together you and I will work for your child to help them be the very best that they can be.
On behalf of teachers from all over the country, thank you for entrusting us with your child for this ensuing school year. We will do everything in our power to be your child’s guide in learning and exploring this bright, beautiful world they’ve entered into. And always, always remember that your child’s first and most important teacher is you!
