Avengers Campus Disneyland Resort-Know Before You Go
Avengers Campus Disneyland Resort is now open and waiting just for you and your team of superheroes and before you get ready to assemble at this all-new Marvel-themed land in Disney California Adventure, here’s everything you need to
know before you go. The much anticipated Avengers Campus Disneyland opened June 4 and we were there on opening day to assemble with thousands of other new recruits. Avengers Campus allows you to team up with the Avengers and explore a Campus created for the next generation of Super-Heroes! Disney is noted for its storytelling and Avengers
Campus is no different. Imagine a training ground for a new generation of superheroes, a laboratory for innovative hero technology, and a forum for inspiring ideas about how to safeguard Earth. The C.A.M.P.U.S. in the new land’s name is actually an acronym for Centralized Assembly Mobilized to Prepare, Unite and Safeguard.
The best part is that because it is part of the Marvel Avengers Campus Disneyland Resort is not locked into any particular timeline in the Marvel comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel’s multiverse and alternate timelines mean Avengers Campus never has to worry about a superhero or villain getting killed off in a movie or comic. Avengers Campus lives in its own version of the multiverse while still remaining aware of the history it shares with the events of Marvel films and comics. All your favorite Marvel characters are free to come and go from Avengers Campus as they please and they
do just that. After being the initial opening being delayed from its original July 2020 date due to COVID-19, the demand to be the first to step inside this new land was at an all-time high with fans waiting 10-12 hours to score the coveted reservation that would allow them access into Disney California Adventure on opening weekend, and many arriving in the middle of the night to be the among the very first to assemble and it did not disappoint. One of the best parts of the weekend was hearing the shrieks of joy at 12:00 noon each day to those that were able to score the coveted virtual
boarding groups for the land’s newest attraction, WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. Here’s a closer look at the new Marvel superhero land which will WOW you with everything from Doctor Strange conjuring up magic spells, Black Panther training new recruits, Black Widow battling villains, and Spider-Man swinging across the sky.
The Bigger Picture
The Avengers Campus Disneyland version will be part of a larger worldwide Marvel presence at Disney theme parks around the globe. Hong Kong Disneyland was the first Marvel land to become operational with the Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and the Wasp Nano Battle attractions at the Stark Expo-themed land. The global Marvel backstory being told at Disney parks
begins with Hydra’s attack at Hong Kong Disneyland. An identical Spider-Man attraction to the one at Disney California Adventure is also planned for a Walt Disney Studios Park theme park. Paris Disneyland will convert the existing Rock ‘n Roller Coaster to an Iron Man theme. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster is under construction at the Xandarian Outpost area planned for Epcot in Florida. Shanghai Disneyland’s Marvel presence will be limited to character meet-and-greet opportunities.
Avengers Campus Overview
The first phase of Avengers Campus Disneyland Resort-style includes a Spider-Man interactive dark ride, Doctor Strange mystic arts show, Ant-Man, and the Wasp restaurant, and Marvel character meet-and-greets and high flying, rooftop stunt shows galore. A second phase will open at an unannounced date with an Avengers E-ticket attraction. The existing Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! indoor drop ride will serve as the anchor for the new Avengers.
Guests can quench their thirst at Pym Tasting Lab, featuring beer cocktails served in beaker glasses using a reverse draft system that fills the glass from the bottom. The superhero cocktail bar has eight draft beers on tap, including a cold-fermented lager, blood orange hefeweizen, hazy IPA, and amber ale. Avengers Campus is also home to a pair of Marvel-themed food carts: Shawarma Palace and Terran Treats.
The new Avengers Campus has been created as a living environment where stunt shows, training sessions, and special effects-enhanced encounters appear to happen spontaneously.
Shows That Amaze and Delight
Spider-Man Flies Through The Air
From the moment you enter Avengers Campus, you are instantly struck with the knowledge that Walt’s love of storytelling is all around, including high overhead. The antics of Spider-Man’s whose entrance is nothing short of jaw-dropping and is a combination of human and animatronic and all Disney magic.
Spider-Man is first seen as he comes out onto the roof to greet everyone to the tune of Tom Hollands’ voice showcasing his spidey skills. Suddenly he disappears from view only to reappear flying through the air, which turns out to be an animatronic the likes of which no one has ever seen, and lands behind another building. The next thing you see is Spider-Man crawling down the side of a building, and he not only interacts with the guests but is one of the character photo-ops available.
Avengers Rooftop Stunt Show
Marvel superheroes and supervillains battle in a rooftop stunt show next to a Quinjet docked on top of the Avengers Headquarters building. Black Widow, Black Panther, and Captain America all fight Taskmaster, the primary villain of the new Marvel-themed land and the mysterious masked antagonist in Marvel’s upcoming “Black Widow” movie periodically throughout the day . Taskmaster uses his innate ability to mimic the fighting style of his foes to battle the Avengers, according to the backstory for this spectacular stunt show.
Stunt performers use swords, shields, and martial arts weapons during the staged fight while leaping from the rooftop ramparts of the Avengers HQ building. Meanwhile, Down below, at Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! get ready to dance with Peter Quill and a Gamora as they come to retrieve Quill’s boom box.
Dora Milaje Training Sessions
Young warriors anxious to join the Dora Milaje will be able to train with Black Panther and Wakanda’s elite royal guards at Avengers Campus. Dora Milaje leader General Okoye leads training encounters that include lessons in Wakanda wisdom. The daily training sessions take place in the courtyard at the center of campus marked by a giant Avengers symbol. There is a poignant moment during the training that is so heartfelt and so profound that the gathered crowd becomes silent – to the point that you really could hear a pin drop. The Dora Milaje training sessions are similar to the Jedi Training Academy demonstrations.
Say “Avengers” – Character Photo Ops
Avengers Campus join other characters from the Marvel universe throughout the day for meet-and-greet photo opportunities — with more than a dozen superheroes and supervillains making appearances. Four Marvel heroes (Iron Man, Ant-Man, The Wasp, and General Okoye) and a villain (Taskmaster) that don’t regularly appear in Disney California Adventure will now call Avengers Campus home.
Marvel characters that have previously resided in Hollywood Land including Black Widow, Black Panther, Thor, Loki, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot have now taken up residence on the Avengers Campus but over in Hollywood Land, and be sure not to miss new Avenger recruits including Mickey Mouse, as well as Chip and Dale getting in the spirit of things.
Iron Man will soon be meeting visitors in his new Mark 80 armor on the first floor of Avengers Headquarters. Ant-Man and the Wasp frequent the area around Pym Test Kitchen. Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot will continue to hang out near the Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction. Thor and Loki can be found near Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, and young and young at heart can try to lift Thor’s hammer at a photo-op location location. New Marvel movies and Disney+ series could
bring even more characters to Avengers Campus Disneyland and Walt Disney Imagineering has teased a Groot walking audio-animatronic could someday make appearances in Avengers Campus. In addition, there are plenty of great photo walls, and unique photo opportunities waiting just for you.
Get Ready For Out of This Universe Adventures
Get Ready To Sling Those Webs
The most anticipated attraction of Avengers Campus is WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure which invites you to sling virtual webs at escaped Spider-Bots that have run amok. WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure invites you to embark on an action-packed adventure alongside the amazing Spider-Man! As the story unfolds, you will learn that Peter
Parker’s helpful but otherwise buggy Spider-Bots have gotten stuck in replication mode and have escaped from a WEB Workshop. It is up to you to help Spider-Man stop the rampaging robots before they wreak total techno-havoc across Avengers Campus. The problem is, they’re rapidly leveling up and becoming tough to beat!
Your task? Hop aboard a WEB Slinger vehicle and help weave a frenzied web to trap these friendly neighborhood sidekicks in true Spidey style. It’s up to you to unleash your inner hero and save the Campus from complete chaos!
Spider-Man actor Tom Holland appears in a pre-show introduction and demonstrates the gameplay for the interactive dark ride — explaining how to nab the pesky Spider-Bots. The spider-like assembly droids find materials, deconstruct them and build new gear from the parts. The multi-tool legs on the S.P.D.R. Bots include a plasma cutter, circular saw, screwdriver, and welder. S.P.D.R. stands for Scan, Procure, Deconstruct and Replicate.
The entrance to WEB Slingers is via the WEB Open House where new enhancements to Spider-Man’s suit are on display. As you make your way into the Worldwide Engineering Brigade — or WEB — you’ll learn how it employs amateur inventors who create hero tech for aspiring superhero recruits. WEB partners with Stark Industries, Pym Technologies, and the Wakanda Design Group.
As with everything that Disney does, the attention to detail unparalleled and no detail is too small and it all helps to put you right into the heart of the story. WEB Slingers uses gesture-recognition technology to track the body and eye movements of the riders as they sling virtual webs from their wrists by punching and karate chopping the air at digital targets in the attraction.
Want to make sure that you are the recipient of the high score on WEB Slingers? The park will sell $65 web-shooters and repulsor cannons that will unlock superhero powers and improve scores on the WEB Slingers ride. This is the perfect attraction for the entire family as there are no height restrictions so everyone in your group can join in the fun.
To experience WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, as well as Rise of the Resistance and Indiana Jones in Disneyland park, guests are required to join the virtual queue, only accessible via the Disneyland mobile app. Distribution times for virtual queue enrollment are at 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM each day, subject to availability. In order to give as many Guests as possible the opportunity to sling webs alongside Spider-Man, each Guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day.
Starting the day at Disney California Adventure Park
Guests with a valid ticket and theme park reservation, who will start their day at Disney California Adventure Park, can access the virtual queue system via the Disneyland app and check for an available boarding group starting at 7:00 AM on the day of their park reservation. This can be done before you leave your hotel, home, or wherever else you may be at that time. You’ll need to have park tickets linked to your Disney account and applicable theme park reservations. If you are unable to join the morning virtual queue opportunity, you may check for an available boarding group starting at 12:00 PM, that day, after you have entered the park.
Starting the day at Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper Ticket
To access the virtual queue opportunity beginning at 12:00 PM, Guests must have a valid ticket and park reservation and have entered Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket by noon. Guests beginning their day at Disneyland Park may then enter Disney California Adventure Park with their Park Hopper ticket after 1:00 PM for their boarding group, as applicable.
Ensure push notifications are enabled, so you receive virtual queue call back details via the Disneyland app if your group is called to return. You’ll have up to an hour from the time of the alert to go to the entrance of WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
The only way to experience WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure is with valid admission into Disney California Adventure Park and via the virtual queue. No standby lines are available. Access to a boarding group is subject to availability and not guaranteed. Distribution times are subject to change or cancellation.
Joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. Guests may only enter a virtual queue once per day for each attraction, and may not hold a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure at the same time.
And YES!!!! If you time it correctly you can actually experience both WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, Rise of the Resistance as well as Indiana Jones, which is also utilizing a virtual queue, all on the same day!!! Scoring the trifecta of all 3 boarding groups all in the same day may very well be my crowning Disney achievement over the course of the past almost 66 years.
