Last summer when I visited Grapevine located in the heart of Texas I learned that people welcome you with open arms, that everything is indeed bigger in Texas and most importantly, the food is unsurpassed when it comes to taste and something for every taste bud and craving. 

 If you think Texas is just about great BBQ, think again. From the best in 5 star dining to a down home eatery where you will leave with that full and happy feeling when you have breakfast at grandma’s house, there’s no shortage of great food when it comes to Grapevine. Here are 7 of the best eateries you may have never heard of in Grapevine Texas

Chill Sports Bar and Grill

 From appetizers big enough to be a meal all onto themselves to pizza, to salads, to soups to wraps and everything in between, the Chill Sports Bar and Grill is just what you’re looking for when you’re seeking that laid back place where you can sit back, enjoy good food, good friends and just kick back and relax.

Their Mac ‘N Cheese bites are just this side of heaven and the rich and creamy soups are perfect no matter what time of day.

From the moment you walk in the door, the look and feel of Texas is all around you from the staff to the ambiance-it’s like getting a great big Texas hug.

This is the place where burgers and chili rule the roost. Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor featuring classic southwestern cuisine. No trip to Tolbert’s would be complete without their signature Bowl of Red Chili.

Blue Goose Cantina 

Bright, colorful and a fiesta all onto itself, the Blue Goose Cantina serves up some of the best Tex-Mex food around.

From the exceptional service, enchiladas and chicken fajitas this restaurant is what you want when you’re looking for a fun night on the town.

Do not miss their sizzling fajitas that are created from their with homemade tortillas which you can sit back and watch being made.

With $2 margaritas on Tuesday, need I say more? If it’s Tex-Mex food you seek, it’s the Blue Goose Cantina located adjacent to the Grapevine Mills. 

Old West Café

Remember back in the day when you would walk into grandma’s house and she would just keep feeding you and feeding you and feeding you and you left happy and full? Welcome to the Old West Café.

This hidden gem that every local knows about is the place to go when you just want some stick to the ribs, down home cooking.

With an 45 minute wait on a Tuesday morning, I can say without hesitation that it was worth the wait and then some. This family-friendly outpost with a Wild West theme serves all your classic American favorite from the Old Key West skillet meals, to Sinkers and Slippers- also known as biscuits and gravy to their signature French Toast which probably could have fed a family of four and yes I managed to finish it all by myself.

Breakfast is served all day long-or as they say, until they go home for the day. Conveniently located on the NW Highway, start your day at the Old West Café’.

Grapevine Craft Brewery

Although Grapevine may be known for its wine, there are just those times when you just want a nice cold brew and when those times roll around, it is all about Grapevine Craft Brewery. 

After getting its start in a Grapevine garage, the  taproom and beer garden has now found a home in a two story building in the midst of the Historic Downtown Grapevine.

Open 7  days a week from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Grapevine Craft Brewery features a wide variety of house beers on tap, and the taproom also features specialty sodas and cold-brew coffee, plus special limited brews and cask-aged beers. If you’re hungry fear not because a rotating lineup of food trucks feeding patrons between 5 and 8 p.m each night.  When it’s a cold one you need, head to the Grapevine Craft Brewery. 

Weinberger’s Deli

I had the pleasure of sitting with Dan Weinberger, owner of Weinberger’s Deli at dinner one night was lucky enough to spend the evening learning about the art of the sandwich and believe me when I say, it is, in every sense of the word, an art. For instance, did you know that you should never put things like mayonnaise and mustard directly onto the bread when making a sandwich but rather put the meat next to the bread and then the condiments? This prevents the bread from getting soggy. This was just one of the valuable lessons I came home with thanks to Dan. The pride and passion you see and hear in Dan are just as prevalent when you walk into Weinberger’s Deli.

If you can’t find something here to your liking, then chances are you won’t find anything anywhere because they truly have something for everyone. With the top 20 sandwiches listed on the board when you walk in, and then another 150 to choose from, this Chicago-style deli serves delicious meaty sandwiches and subs. including their most famous creation, the Italian Beef. Not a meat eater-no worries, there are plenty of great vegetarian options to choose from and if you still can’t quite find something, no worries, they will make you whatever your heart desires. If it’s a sandwich and fun you want, look no further than Weinberger’s Deli, located on Main Street in the Historic District of Grapevine. They will have the sandwich you crave.
